My 'day job' for the last 30 years has been as a graphic designer and owner of a commercial sign company. For 20 of those years, I've contributed to international industry magazines that cover many aspects of the sign and design industry.
Writing 100's of magazine articles over the years has not only been a great way to work with an editor and media group, but it's also honed my skills as a writer. Magazine articles are all about sharing knowledge, and anything that I don't have firsthand experience with, I do research to supplement my knowledge. I then organize this information by topic and present it clearly and concisely.
Writing fiction novels is definitely a different, more creative approach, but it still involves the same researching and gathering of information, organizing it to meet a general outline, and then presenting it in a way that garners the reader's attention.
